ARTIST STATEMENT
Bread is approached here as a structural form — a unit through which value, division, and mutual dependence are revealed. Carved from tuff, a volcanic stone deeply rooted in Armenian architectural tradition, the work transforms nourishment into a permanent object.
The form is informed by Armenian stone architecture and the excavated architecture of Matera, where space is shaped through removal, and meaning emerges from subtraction. As in rock-cut structures, void becomes structure, and absence defines form.
The bread is cut open, exposing its inner architecture and ornament. It can be divided, but not consumed. Sharing is no longer an act of use, but of responsibility. Transformation is not symbolic — it is material and irreversible.
